If you wish to use the Spire Print Ready or Spire Print Ready Plus Package you are responsible for the delivery of a print ready pdf. The package is a good choice if you have a degree of technical knowledge about book production or access to a book designer. Please take a look at these spcifications:

• Our standard page size is 216 x 140 mm or 8.5 x 5.5 inches. Other formats can be acommodated, please contact info@spirepublishing.com for details.
• We do not require printer's marks on your pdf.
• We require seperate files for the body of your book and for the cover.
• Body file must be in single pages not spreads.
• It is recommended that you provide a minimum of 1/2” (0.5) margin on all sides of your text block.
• We will tell you what size the spine needs to be.
• Make sure that black and white images are saved in grayscale mode. It is a good idea to dial up the cotrast setting for images a little, they look crisper that way when printed.
• All colour images must be saved in CMYK mode not RGB.
• The minimum image resolution is 200 dpi for pictures in the body of the book and 300 dpi for cover images.
• For best results regarding black on your cover, we recommend using a rich black where the CMYK values are 60% Cyan, 40% Magenta, 40% Yellow, and 100% Black. CMYK total value should not exceed 240%. Black elements should not be built in ‘Registration’ Black (or 100% of all colors).
• For best results regarding ‘body text’ (text that is 24 pt. or below), please use 100% black only.
• All fonts need to be embedded. This is essential for a professional looking result.
• We will send you an ISBN number and barcode to incorporate into your book and cover.
• Pdf files that do not meet the above guidelines may produce disappointing results.
• If you are not sure if your settings are correct please consider taking advantage of our pdf checking service. For a fee of £45.00/$85.00 we check if your file is correctly formatted before you submit it.
• We have a number of InDesign templates available for both body and cover. These are made available to authors upon request.
